TE 804: REFLECTION AND INQUIRY IN TEACHING PRACTICE
Be Reflective
Fall 2009
Instructor- M. Missias
Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice is a course that built many professional skills necessary for "good" teaching. In order to become successful as a teacher from Day 1 to Year 30 a teacher must cultivate the skills of inquiry and reflection. Teachers must constantly reflect upon each lesson and unit in order to improve their teaching. They must continue to inquire within their content area and pedagogy or theory to improve the educational experience for their students.
Throughout this course students were asked to reflect upon what they had learned in school and how these theories played out in the classroom. "The extent to which you are able to “theorize,” that is to make apparent how and why you think about your practice, is what helps define the boundaries of what you can imagine for the content and character of how you approach teaching. Yet there is a well documented perceived rift between what is considered “theoretical” and what is considered “practical.” This course begins with the belief that in order to help one imagine the possibilities for his or her teaching practice, one must make the practical more theoretical, and the theoretical more practical." - Matt Missias TE 804 Instructor

TE 804: Letter to the Future -
This assignment was a letter written to the future "self" about lasting lessons that should be remembered. Through this learning activity the teacher reflected upon their learning experiences and impactful teaching moments. This letter is meant to be read and learned from five years after it is written. The lesson requires the teacher to be reflective while writing this paper and many years later when it is read.
