TE 803: Professional Roles and TEaching Practice
What is a professional?
Fall 2009
Instructor - S. Kendall
What does it mean to be a professional teacher? How do you navigate the complex student/teacher relationship? How do I become a successful teacher? These questions and many more are answered within the TE 803: Professional Roles and Teaching Practice course. This graduate class is designed to prepare teachers to navigate the world of a professional educator. There are many challenges which new teachers face within the workplace; how to gain content knowledge, how to deal with struggling students, how to gain additional support. As an educator one must continue to reflect and address these issues.
Additionally, this class is designed to teach educators to be reflective about their craft. A teacher must always take notes, journals, logs, collaborate, and grow. If these skills are not practiced throughout a teacher's career they may not be successful in the workplace.

TE 803: Case Study -
This assignment required graduate students to analyze the teaching environment they were a part of throughout their teaching internship year. This analysis forced the teacher to reflect upon the positive and negative aspects of the community they were a part of. This paper allowed myself to acknowledge these positives and negatives in order to address and improve the teaching environment for my students.

TE 804: Final Creed -
This assignment required graduate students to develop their own personal teaching creed. This creed was developed from the experiences I had as a teacher to this point in my professional career. This creed was considered a "draft" to be expanded and improved as our career continued.
